Realizing the dream from our first 20 years of heads-down growth
Having systematically outgrown our premises at 811 Douglas Avenue 3 times over 11 years, we eventually determined that the logical next step was to do what we do best: Create a purpose-built facility to best meet our own user-needs! The project was launched once we found and purchased an ideal plot of land just minutes away and still centered in our beloved downtown Dunedin, one of the best-kept secrets in Florida as a place to live, work and play.
The two-and-a-half year journey to achieve this Masterpiece
Not surprisingly it took us a year and two design layouts to complete our vision for the advanced facility. It was imperative that it met our long-term needs while also integrating the very latest in IT and AV equipment, provided distinctive architecture and optimized workflows. We also wanted our new home to blend into the culture and flavor of this quaint seaside town, so it needed to be new yet traditional. We created a design that was both YIN and YANG, classical Key West and post-modern cubic steel and glass. It was to be solidly built to commercial standards, echoing our mission for BlackHägen Design to be a solid partner to industry for the long haul. The building construction therefore took another year, plus another six months to perfect the interior build-out, finishing details and systems integration. Finally, mid year 2017 saw the completion of all elements with operations declared fully functional.
Seamless integration of creative studios, high-tech labs, meeting rooms and client facilities
The design of 333 Scotland Street amassed decades of operational and consulting experience to produce an optimized layout of public and private spaces fashioned in glass, wood, stone and masonry. Large windows and reflective surfaces bring an abundance of natural light to the design studio, innovation lab, executive offices and recreation center, providing a bright and pleasant space for our staff to practice and perfect their trade. Client areas are finished with a corporate but friendly appearance to suit our global clients, start-ups and inventors alike. A 400 gallon saltwater aquarium atop oiled teak, stainless steel and polished granite counters greets visitors upon entry. Multiple conference rooms and client offices buffered by service spaces and corridors ensure privacy during concurrent meetings. Our integrated usability suite with built-in live-stream audio/video recording and observation room provides convenience and efficient user-research capabilities at a fraction of the cost of independent research facilities. Project brainstorming rooms and prototyping labs support our design and engineering activities. Dunedin’s renowned downtown restaurants, bars, shops, hotels and marina remain conveniently just steps away to encourage an amazing work and life experience.
We hope you will come and visit us soon to determine how the BlackHägen Design is now even better able to serve your needs!
