Rich is a graduate from UMASS Amherst with a Bachelor of Science, Computer Systems Engineering and has a certificate of training from the AAMI Committee in Human Factors for Medical Devices and Risk Management and Human Factors. He has over 25 years of experience developing medical devices including defibrillators, diagnostic ultrasound systems, and other safety critical medical devices.
Rich spent over 15 years working as an embedded software engineer before transitioning into Human Factors and Usability. Prior to BH, Rich worked at ZOLL Medical, Hewlett Packard, Philips Healthcare, and DEKA Research and Development. As part of his role at DEKA, Rich worked with BH on several usability testing projects for both ergonomic and virtual user interfaces.
During his nearly eight year tenure at BH as a Usability Engineering Manager, Rich oversaw usability evaluations and planned and executed numerous Formative and Summative Usability Studies for clients including Philips, DEKA, Smith & Nephew, Olympus, and others. He also utilized his extensive experience to provide consulting services in usability Regulatory strategy and Standards, including IEC 62366, assisted many clients with Regulatory submissions, including responding to feedback from the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
Over his career, Rich has presented at many conferences and authored articles on various topics related to Usability Design and Human Factors for Medical Devices.
